As the weather turns warmer, many of us will grab our tools and gardening gloves and head outside to spruce up the yard. When our outdoor spaces feel comfortable and tidy, we find ourselves spending more time in the yard, enjoying these precious warm months! As you plan your own outdoor space this spring, we’d love to share some easy tips that will bring bright birds with their beautiful songs into your yard, too. They’re beautiful to watch and fun to care for – you will never regret creating space for them!

Birds need safe places to nest in the spring. Offering them a clean birdhouse in a safe place is the perfect idea! It will give them space to lay eggs and live throughout the summer month, and it provides an easy way to add a splash of colourful whimsy into your yard. Birds are attracted to bright colours like red, pink and green. This makes for fun and inventive birdhouse designs, so find one or two that you love and watch the birds call it home!

As you mount your birdhouse, remember that our little feathered friends can be quite weary from constantly keeping an eye out for predators. Put their home in an open space that gives them as many sight lines as possible. Atop a fence post or deck rail are great options. Wherever you place it, just be sure there are no overly thick bushy areas around, and that it’s high enough from the ground to ward off furry predators.

Bird baths are another feather-friendly feature that add beauty and tranquility to your outdoor space. Again, there are countless styles and designs to choose from, so have fun with it! Pick something that fits your style and enjoy watching dozens of bird species keep clean throughout the summer. Don’t forget to refresh the water from time to time!

If you really want to take things a step further and get into landscaping this year, shrubs and foliage definitely help to create a bird friendly atmosphere.  This addition is more permanent than our other suggestions, of course, but if you enjoy planting, growing and caring for shrubs and trees, they offer birds a place of calm and protection from predators, and a safe place to feed and rest. If you are not ready to become a gardener, no worries – you can always pick up a few hanging plants/flowers or some lovely potted pieces from your local plant nursery.

The more you become involved in birds’ everyday routine, the more fun it will be to create a safe and beautiful environment for them to habitat, which will of course flow into your peace, tranquility and relaxation. If you’re ready to get started, check out our collection of bird houses! We offer small and large sizes in various bright colours, so you’ll be sure to find something you love. We can’t wait to help you turn your outdoor space into a bird-friendly paradise!
